At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK. When operational, HPC will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes, and make a major contribution to the UK’s move to reduce carbon emissions. We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our nuclear energy business working as part of EDF’s Technical Directorate based in Bristol. This is an exciting time to join the team as the HPC Project is moving into the key mechanical & electrical erection phase and work is progressing to help Britain achieve #CarbonNetZero. What you’ll be doing In your role, you will provide technical oversight and surveillance of a range of different contracts to ensure the work is delivered to quality standards, with a focus on Nuclear Safety. Reporting into the Electrical Manager, you will have over-sight of side-wide electrical distribution and will be responsible for the review and acceptance of contract deliverables. Who you are We are looking for someone with a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience; chartered status is desirable. You'll need to bring experience of designing high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical distribution systems across large sites with multiple functional buildings. In this role, you'll be responsible for estimating electrical demands for the entire site and individual buildings, considering various operating profiles and seasonal variations. You'll also need to be skilled in determining Essential and Non-Essential electrical loads and assigning the appropriate power supplies. Your experience should include sizing electrical distribution equipment such as transformers, generators, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). You'll also need proficiency in selectivity and diversity analysis, electrical protection, and cable sizing. Finally, you should have experience across the project lifecycle, including design, qualification, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, or site-based operations.
