City of Oxford College work with students who are enrolled on a variety of academic courses and are studying at all levels, from entry qualifications to Level 3, including A levels and T levels. Pathways available for students include performing arts, catering, forensic science, health and social care, hair and beauty, furniture making and music.

About the role as a Teaching Assistant at Activate Learning;

Working with young people or adults with a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities and/or behavioural needs, including mental health and wellbeing needs.

The teaching assistant may help the student to develop life skills, independence, and employability skills. Some students may require personal and/or medical care. If this is required for the student/s you would be working with, training would be provided.

What do you need to be a successful Teaching Assistant at Activate Learning?

As a teaching assistant at Activate Learning, you will have a passion, resilience and patience to develop independence in learners and to encourage them to take more responsibility for their own learning.

You will have good communication skills and a cooperative working style with the ability to work as part of a team, teaching assistants work with students in the classrooms and workshops, alongside the teacher. This can be on a 1:1 or small group basis.

As a teaching assistant you will have:

  • A creative and innovative approach to motivating learners and delivering support.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with a range of people.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and e-literacy skills, including using Office 365 and various IT packages, e.g., Word, Excel.

You may have:

  • Experience of working in an FE or other learning environments.
  • Experience of industry and the working world.
  • Experience of working with young people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • Level 3 Support Assistant qualification or equivalent, but this is not essential.
