Position Description QIAGEN Manchester is a world leading centre for molecular diagnostic applications, expanding and enhancing the delivery of life-improving diagnostic systems for existing and emerging medical needs, with a focus on companion diagnostics and personalized healthcare in infectious disease and oncology. At our custom built, state-of-the-art facility close to Manchester city centre we are located next to major hospital and university sites, reinforcing our connections with the healthcare sector and our commitment to scientific innovation. We have created a diverse, collaborative, safe and engaging workplace which forms the basis for high performing individuals and teams.We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an (Associate) Manager within the Central Services team supporting health and safety and site facilities of QIAGEN in the UK at our Manchester headquarters and supporting home workers nationwide. This position will be based on site in Manchester, where we develop new and existing molecular diagnostic applications, utilizing state of the art RNA and DNA technologies. The position reports directly to the Head of Central Services and Health and Safety UK. The Central Services team is responsible for various site activities, including facilities, office and laboratory management, logistics and health and safety.Key responsiblities:Supporting the Head of Health and Safety UK to:- Successfully promote a culture of safety awareness/safety first across the UK organization- Maintain a safe and efficient workplace environment by working closely with laboratory owners, operators and Facilities staff- Develop and maintain the health and safety management system including policies, procedures, metrics, records and regulations. Including risk assessment (including DSE) and COSHH procedures (for both on site and field based employees)- Maintain a program of internal audits, inspections and checks- Coordinate and delegate as Chair of the Health and Safety committee- Maintain and test business continuity plans- Achieve ISO 14001 and 45001 accreditation and maintain those standardsTaking a lead role in:- Managing safety incident reports and investigations (for both onsite and field based colleagues), and implementing both corrective and preventative actions- Biological and chemical safety processes, to support cross-site collaboration- Training new starters, and maintaining training records for fire wardens & first aiders (including mental health)- Laboratory management type activities, including day to day management of Central Services and line management of junior staff- Liaising with global teams to ensure compliance with and development of, global safety processes Position Requirements Essential:- Relevant degree in biological science or chemistry (or equivalent) with at least 3 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role- IOSH Managing Safely qualified and up to date knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and best practice- Experience with supervising/leading others- Inspire and motivate people with excellent leadership and communication skills to ensure you drive the enhancement of key processes and procedures- An agile mind-set, happy working within a fast-moving R&D environment with evolving priorities.Desirable:- Certificate in Safety Management (NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent)- Experience (qualification or relevant training) in biological safety- Experience of working in a containment level (CL)3 laboratory, working in a GLP/GMP environment, or equivalent What we offer At the heart of QIAGEN are our people who drive our success.
