Duties

  • Assist in the creation and management of the electro-mechanical system design, including control systems, from concept through to production, installation, and test, using a combination of manual and computer-aided engineering analysis, 3D CAD modelling and functional hardware proof of concept and prototyping.
  • Work to develop and manage system and subsystem product requirements
  • Participate in peer and project design reviews as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in their recognised area(s) of expertise.

The Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer will have working knowledge of:


Requirements & Compliance

· Requirements creation, decomposition, allocation, and validation

· Creation and maintenance of technical and safety risk registers

· Qualification & acceptance testing


Product Development & Management

· New Product Introduction (NPI) methods and practice

· Engineering Change Management

· Bills of Material Structure & Creation


Design and Analysis Tool & Methods

· Dynamic system modelling tools and methods

· Product & system performance analysis and prediction using computer visualisation and mathematical/analytical methods

· Design & Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (D/PFMEA)

· Electro-mechanical power, torque & efficiency calculations

· Design of experiments and the use of proof-of-concept models in the product development process

· Statistical analysis of experimental, test, and quality data


Technologies & Processes

· Theory and practice of open and closed loop control of dynamic systems

· Motor & drive mechanism selection and sizing (AC & DC servos, stepper motors, gear reducers, belt drives etc)

· Specification and selection of force and torque sensors, linear and rotary position feedback devices

· Active and passive methods of vibration control

· Pneumatic actuation and controls

· Robots and robot control systems (FANUC & KUKA preferable)

· 2D and 3D optical and laser-based vision systems

· Packaging of electrical components and assemblies (including passive and active methods of component cooling, avoidance and suppression of EMI and RFI)

· Specification and selection of electrical connectors and cables

· Wiring harness and cable management in static and automated systems

· DfX (including Design for Manufacture, Design for Automated Assembly and Test)


Skills

· Exceptional ability to discern, understand and breakdown requirement inputs from multiple sources, resolve those that are competing and/or contradictory, and formulate a single, complete set of clear, coherent, and unambiguous electro-mechanical subsystem requirements

· Proven ability to conceive and develop innovative, practical, and robust electro-mechanical designs that are based on sound engineering principles.

· Exceptional ability to analyse a system’s mechanical behaviour, troubleshoot and diagnose performance problems and propose robust and practical solutions.

· Excellent interpersonal abilities and proven ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional project environment

· Proficiency in the creation of 3D CAD models and assemblies

· Proficiency in the creation of 2D orthographic engineering drawings IAW BS:8888

· Exceptional written and oral communication skills (working language is English)

· Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)


Qualifications/Experience

Electro-Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineering Degree or dual Electrical Mechanical Engineering Degree.


Pay: £45,000.00-£60,000.00 per year DOE
