Our Place By The River
The Odney Hotel, our Place by the River, is a beautifully unique hotel exclusively used by our Partners. Set in 130 acres of picturesque countryside by the River Thames in Cookham, Berkshire, it offers character, history and charm to all those who stay and work there.
On site, guests also enjoy a private stretch of river, water gardens, a pool and sports facilities. As well as our own Serenity Spa, offering beauty treatments and massages.
What’s the role about?
As a Grounds and Gardens Technician you’ll work as part of a team to develop the estate’s grounds, gardens, sports areas, lakes, play areas and woodland. Delivering high standards throughout the grounds and gardens to enhance the reputation of the hotel and providing an excellent guest experience.
As a Grounds & Gardens Technician you’ll... :
- Undertake all horticultural and maintenance tasks to a high level of craftsmanship.
- Maintain and use a wide range of tools and powered equipment
- Ensure and promote the Health and Safety of yourself and others
- Welcome and communicate with visitors to the Gardens, including giving talks and answering questions.
- Follow work schedules for the department to effectively deliver seasonal work plans to deliver maintenance and project priorities
- Ensure and promote a safety culture amongst the team complying with statutory, industry and Partnership requirements
- Carry out Pre-Start checks on any machinery used, reporting and faults to the People Manager
- An awareness of the estate reporting any dangers or damage, such as boundary fencing or tree branches to your People Manager
- Assisting with sowing, propagation and cultivation of plants, shrubs and trees
- Maintain pathways, including the clearance of snow and ice
- Willingness to maintain a swimming pool
- Support and take part in Club events when required, which will involve occasional extra hours at weekends and evenings.
What you’ll have :
- Relevant experience of working within a Grounds and/or Gardens Team
- NVQ Level 2 or Equivalent in Professional Horticulture or Sports Turf Maintenance
- Good work ethic
- Enthusiastic personality
- Attention to detail
- Full Driving Licence
What else you could bring :
- Certificate in Chainsaw use NPTC CS30 / CS31
- Certificate in Safe use of Pesticides NPTC PA1, PA2, PA6
- Experience of working in a commercial greenhouses
- Qualification in Garden design
- Trailer Licence
- CPCS 360 Excavator A58
Hours of work
7.30am
- 4pm and 1 in 6 weekends on a rota basis
