About us The Family Information Service (FIS) is the first point of contact for information on childcare, activities and services for children and young people and family support services in the Vale of Glamorgan. FIS is a small team with a great culture.

It sits within the wider Performance and Information Team in Social Services.

The aim of the service is to provide information and guidance to families and people working with families about what is available locally. The service has a helpline, website, resource directory, social media presence and an outreach service. The team work with a range of departments within the Vale Council, as well as the Health Authority and third sector.

About the role Pay Details**: Grade 5, SCP 8-12, (£20,852 - £22,571)

Hours of Work / Working Pattern : 37 Hours Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 5pm

Main Place of Work : Home and the Dock Offices, Subway Road, Barry

Description :This is an exciting, varied role with plenty of opportunities for self-development, while providing a valuable service to families in the Vale of Glamorgan.

You will be instrumental in promoting the Family Information Service to parents, carers and professionals via an outreach service in the community, as well as via various digital platforms. This will involve a mix of screen-based work and in person attendance at events and groups within the community.

You will answer and process enquiries from parents, carers and professionals and provide information and guidance on childcare, services and support for families and activities for children and young people in the Vale of Glamorgan

You will source information on new services and update the information database, website and social media.

About you You will need:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience of dealing directly with the public and providing information/advice services
  • Experience of outreach and community development work and working with other agencies
  • Experience in the use and update of information systems, including social media
  • A high level of IT skills
  • 4 GCSE’s grade C or higher, or comparative standard, including English language
  • Self motivated and enthusiastic to help develop the service
  • Good presentation skills
