Mainlaying Operative

  • Cossington
  • Wessex Water

Due to increased construction commitments, we have an exciting opportunity for a Main laying operative to join our team.

The role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a new water supply team at Wessex Water.

As a Main laying Operative, it will be your responsibility to operate within a dynamic Main laying team while carrying out a wide range of construction site activities.

Your role will include:

  • project involvement during the construction phase of the projects.
  • collaboratively working as part of a skilled team, striving to achieve the team’s aims and objectives, whilst maintaining the required Wessex Water procedures and practices.
  • plant operation following the appropriate training.
  • construction duties, such as excavations and deep digs.
  • the installation of pipes, covering a range of materials and diameters, constructed under a variety of technical methods, including the use of no-dig technology.
  • receiving required training packages to enhance your ability as a Main laying Operative.
  • working within confined spaces.
  • ensuring works are delivered in line with our ethos of Safety, Quality, Time, and Cost, and following company policies and procedures.

What do you need?

Essential to the role is an individual with a positive work ethic, who is excited to learn and develop, while also working collaboratively with the rest of the team. Previous site experience can be an advantage but is not essential.

You will also be required to attend and participate in team briefs, task-specific and mandatory training courses, safety updates and workplace communications, ensuring all works are carried out safely and to the highest standard.

These roles are site-based and will require travel across the Wessex Water region.

We are looking for people with a positive, can-do attitude, who will motivate and encourage our operatives to be the best they can be.

Safety is key for us and we’re looking for people who can be an ambassador for all things health, safety and wellbeing related. We will need you to hold a valid driving license so that you can get to our (often remote) sites and operate plant.
