Quantity Surveyors Outside IR35 - Rail/Highways/M&E

We are looking for Quantity Surveyors/ Senior Quantity Surveyors to work within a high-profile and prestigious brand within construction, M&E & infrastructure. You will be a self-motivated and driven individual who will work on projects within the infrastructure sector inclusive of potential, existing and new contracts across a portfolio of clients. You will be accountable for managing commercial risk and communicating this across a variety of stakeholders within the business. You will be responsible for the management of the sector and projects within your portfolio (power, highways, tunnelling, rail etc)

Key areas -

  • Support the work winning team to review/identify risks/accountabilities within tender packs and associated contractual terms and conditions
  • Prepare, develop and implement commercial strategies for pre and post tender
  • Transitioning the handover of projects tendered into live projects
  • Determination of the scope of work and contractual obligations delivering the work through the interpretation of contract documents
  • Advise the business on the differing standard form of contracts used for construction projects
  • Identify and manage commercial risk on new and existing contracts
  • Quantifying and costing of infrastructure works
  • Accountable for contract compliance and performance
  • Prepare and implement contract management processes
  • Can coherently explain contract conditions that identify variations to contracts
  • Builds strong and collaborative relationships with key clients and suppliers
  • Negotiate contract agreements and manage potential onerous contractual obligations
  • Contract administration including providing advice on contractual matters
  • Work with Sector Managers to ensure projects fit commercial targets
  • Develop, finalise and present accurate Management Information (MI) to senior management
  • Support the Project teams on budgets to determine accurate commercial forecasting
  • Perform continuous programme analysis with identification of any potential delays, risk
  • Liaise with the Procurement team for supply chain engagement and subcontract administration
  • Diligently provides timely information on the growth of anticipated Final Account value
  • Ensure compliance of the team towards all safety initiatives and active participation in meeting our safety targets

Essential skills

  • Previous experience in an AQS QS or SQS position within construction
  • Background in working for a Tier 2 sub contractor
  • Proven experience of negotiation
  • Previous experience working within large infrastructure projects
  • Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of NEC contracts (all options)
  • Demonstratable knowledge/understanding of Construction law and standard forms of contract
  • A working understanding of valuation techniques of construction works including elemental cost analysis of items such as labour, materials, plant, sub-contract and general expenses
  • Experience of tendering and pre-contract cost analysis
  • Understands conflict avoidance/conflict management
  • Pro active and forward thinking individual
