Locum Consultant in Microbiology and Infection

Main duties of the job :

  • Share in the provision of a clinical and diagnostic service to the Trust at the Barnet and Chase Farm hospitals.
  • Participate in the clinical duties of the Barnet and Chase Farm Microbiology department with the other consultants on a pro-rata basis.
  • Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities on the Barnet and Chase Farm sites.
  • Participate in teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate.
  • Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme.
  • Participate in laboratory and clinical audit.
  • Participate in service development and policy review.
  • Participate in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and revalidation.
  • Share in the assessment and introduction of new laboratory methods and in planning staff and equipment requirements.

Person specification : Higher qualification : Essential criteria :

  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the GMC (or eligible for registration within 6 months of interview)

Desirable criteria :

  • MSc, MD MRCP or equivalen

General experience : Essential criteria :

  • Wide experience in medical microbiology, virology and infectious diseases

Specialist experience : Essential criteria :

  • Experience with the diagnosis and management of chronic infections / complicated bone and joint infections
  • Infection control
  • Anti-microbial stewardship

Relationship/Comm unication with Patients : Essential criteria :

  • Able to communicate efficiently and appropriately with patients and colleagues

Teaching & Training : Essential criteria :

  • Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching

Research & Publications : Essential criteria :

  • Research & PublicAn interest in research (PAs for research will form SPA time and job plan will reflect this)ations

Desirable criteria :

  • Good quality publications
