Senior Category Manager

The Category Manager (Sub Contracting & Materials) will be required to work closely with the Operations teams to source, negotiate and procure, materials and services to meet the company's operational requirements in line with company objectives.

Hours of work Full time

  • 38.5 hours per week 8.30am-5pm Monday-Friday

Flexible hybrid working from York / Doncaster

Key tasks and responsibilities :

  • Defining and implementing a strategic plan for the category, working with the Head of Procurement and the other Category Managers to drive through the procurement strategy and deliver best in class procurement practices.
  • Delivering the end-to-end procurement cycle for the category from sourcing to contract drafting
  • Controlling all spend within the category, securing best value and maximising economies of scale from supplier expenditure.
  • Building strong relationships with suppliers to effectively manage contracts and performance, to ensure the needs of the business are met and working with key internal stakeholders across the business to give the procurement agenda credibility and visibility.
  • Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns when there is a risk which could prevent the organisation meeting customer demands or where there are over capacity concerns.

Knowledge & experience :

  • Strong organisational and administration skills.
  • Experience of 24/7 environment and pace
  • Possess a proven track record of managing procurement categories in a multi-site business; implementing and embedding strategy, policies, and processes. The postholder will possess a keen interest in procurement and have experience in and be knowledgeableabout the relevant category sector.
  • A strong stakeholder management experience, with the ability to manage supplier relations and internal relationships effectively.
  • Self-motivated and ready to take ownership of situations within the category.
  • Develop and manage people, helping to create a high-performance team culture.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role; experience of Indirect purchasing
  • Excellent understanding of Operational requirements and best practise.
