About the School: St John’s Beaumont is a Roman Catholic (Jesuit) Day and Boarding Preparatory School for boys aged from 3 to 13 set within 75 acres of established woodland and playing fields in a rural location adjacent to Windsor Great Park.

The School enjoys first class facilities including a purpose-built £3 million sports center, indoor and outdoor cricket nets, floodlit tennis courts, a golf putting green and driving range, an indoor swimming pool and over 50 acres of playing fields.

With outstanding facilities and dedicated coaching staff, our boys have the opportunity to regularly participate in and enjoy a rich variety of sports and activities as part of their weekly Games and PE provision.

St John’s enjoys a strong reputation for sport, with a strong rugby and swimming tradition. The School is becoming ever more competitive in cricket, football, golf, and rowing.

During the Michaelmas term we coach rugby, during the Easter term the boys will play football, with a selected group continuing rugby sevens, the summer months cricket is the major team sport. Alongside this, the School’s swimming, tennis, basketball, rowing and golf teams train and compete throughout the year. We also prepare teams to participate in local and regional cross country, biathlon/triathlon and athletics fixtures. Role Overview: The post would suit an enthisiastic and driven individual qualified in sports turf management, greenkeeping or cricket pitch maintaence, or any other relevant horticulture qualifications.

  • Salary: £28,000-£30,000 per annum, depending on expereince.
  • Working hours: 40 yours per week with 22 days holiday in addition to bank holidays

  • Line Management of: Grounds Assistant The Head Groundsperson reports to the Estate Manager and Bursar, with the support or the Grounds Assistant, and is responsible for the marking and upkeep of the sports pitches, grounds, gardens, and woodland. This includes the maintenance and safe operation of grounds equipment and vehicles, and working with contractors as necessary. He/she will manage other staff with specific responsibilities for maintaining the grounds and outdoor sporting facilities.

Other responsibilities may include: Sports Fields and Pitches**: Uphold our reputation within the school and wider community for the beauty of our grounds and the standard of our sporting facilities.

  • Actively liaise with Heads of Sport to ensure that pitches and other sporting facilities are prepared to a high standard and are available as required.

  • Prepare and implement a grounds maintenance programme.

  • Prepare budget estimates for inclusion in the annual expenditure budget.

  • Ensure pitches are marched and rolled in line with relevant sports guidelines. Gardens:

  • Ensure all roads and pathways, signage, lawns, gardens, borders and woodland areas are always maintained to a high standard and show the school in its best light to the community at large. Woods:

  • Assess and monitor trees condition.

  • Develop and implement appropriate woods maintenance plan. Team Management:

  • Manage the Grounds Assistant.

  • Encourage and monitor safe working practices and set positive examples to the team.

  • Conduct annual performance reviews and set performance targets for line managed staff.

  • Ensure that Health and Safety systems are followed, checks are in place and compliance records maintained in line with school policies. This will include risk assessments and measures to ensure the safety of staff and pupils.

  • Plan relevant staff training in the use of equipment, chemicals, PPE, manual handling etc. Maintenance:

  • Ensure that all grounds vehicles and equipment are used to industry standards and meet H&S and are routinely maintained.

  • Repair and maintain sports equipment such as posts and nets.

  • Liaise with and procure external contractors as agreed with the Estate Manager. Administration:

  • Maintain accurate documentation of the estate, maintenance, compliance and H&S record.

  • Review and upodate departamental risk assessments and policies. Contractors:

  • Act as the key point of contact for all grounds contractors and regularly review external

  • contracts, ensuring value for money.

  • Manage all aspects external contract, ensuring that all required checks are completed in

  • advance to meet regulatory compliance requirement, including the HSE and ISI. General:

  • Support the estates team when time allows with general maintenance and handyman tasks.

  • Support school events Sports Day and Open Days as required, including occasional weekends.

  • Ensure storage areas are secure and safely maintained. Safeguarding and School Policies :

  • Always promote safeguarding and the welfare of the children in the school's care, in accordance with the school’s safeguarding policies.
