Job summary Another exciting opportunity has arisen to join the busy and dynamic Nursing team as Health Care Assistant within the Sexual Health and Contraception Service in Worthing. We are a multi-professional progressive team providing a comprehensive, evidence based and patient focused service for Contraception and Sexual Health.Experience is desirable in diagnostic microscopy and venepuncture but not essential as all necessary training will be given to successful candidate.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are imperative as the role requires a sensitive, confidential and non-judgemental manner at all times. Job description Job responsibilities Under the supervision of trained nursing/medical staff acts as chaperone in supporting the patient undergoing examination and assisting in the taking of specimens whilst ensuring the safety, comfort and dignity of the patient at all timesCarries out urinalysis and pregnancy tests, takes bloods and completes microscopy on genital swabs taken by a trained member of staff. Reports findings and enters results onto the clinical system.Explains to patients the purpose of asymptomatic screening and how to take an appropriate urine sample or self-taken throat, vaginal or rectal swab.Provide condom demonstration and offer patients information on male and female condoms and lubricants, emergency contraception for any failures, and STI information. Signposts clients onto the C card schemeEnters data accurately into the computer including demographic, personal and clinical details of patient attendances to provide the department with an up to date record of patient activity and information.Recognises vulnerable adults and child protection issues, assessing patients from the age of 16 and above when attending for asymptomatic screening and refers them to senior clinical colleague immediately.Inputting results onto patient records and texting patients accordingly. Person Specification Experience Essential Good Communication Skills, Non Judgemental Chaperoning-can support patients Education to GCSE level or equivalent with passes in English and maths Aware of confidentiality NVQ level 3 in healthcare, C&G certification or equivalent level of knowledge in care and clinical observation Desirable Microscopy Previous experience in Sexual Health Venepuncture IT skills Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Essential Evidence of having championed diversity in previous roles (as appropriate to role).
