Our Oxfordshire highways team are looking to recruit Apprentice Highways Operatives to work from our Drayton depot. As an Apprentice Highways Operative you will be part of our Highways Team who are responsible for maintaining the OCC network.

This apprenticeship is an 18-month program, that will develop your practical, technical and soft-skills with Health & Safety at the heart of everything you do. On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will gain a Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Level 2 qualification, a permanent opportunity, and a long-term career.

As the Apprentice Highways Operative your duties & responsibilities will be :

  • Highways Maintenance (e.g. pothole repairs, grass cutting, sign installation, Footway/Carriageway Construction, winter gritting services).
  • Providing traffic management for a diversity of projects.
  • Working as part of our multi-disciplined teams to deliver innovative solutions to highways maintenance. As a Milestone Apprentice, you will be recruited on a permanent contract and after completing your apprenticeship you will be promoted into the business. You will also have further development opportunity through professional qualification or training courses.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • At the end of your apprenticeship, you will be awarded a Level 2 Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Apprenticeship.
  • Depending on your location you will be required to travel to college on block release with fellow apprentices and stay in a hotel for your relaxation time.

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Communication skills, IT skills, number skills, team working, physical fitness.
  • GCSE or equivalent English & Maths (Grade Grades A* to C or 9 to 4) Essential

Things to consider.

You will learn all the skills necessary for this Highway Maintenance apprenticeship, through a combination of formal training and practical experience. You will work in a team alongside our highly experienced colleagues, and you will benefit from their knowledge and their support daily.

Additional Information

  • You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated through the use of hand tools.
  • You will be required to work outdoors in all weathers and be required to walk and stand on uneven ground.
  • You must also be able to work within a confined space, without restriction.
