About UsSpellman High Voltage Electronics Corporation, a family owned business for over 75 years, takes pride in powering progress in health, security and quality of life. We are key partners with the world’s leading medical devices, semiconductor, scientific analytics and industrial systems manufacturers. When they want to push the limits of what’s possible with high voltage applications, they turn to us to make it happen. While Spellman is not a household name, our products are used to make and often power many of the most advanced technologies that make modern life possible. With design and manufacturing sites in North America, Europe and Asia, we have become the preferred provider of high voltage power solutions for OEMs pushing the boundaries of technology around the world by designing and producing the products they need to power progress.Main objectives:The design and development of high voltage power conversion products and associated equipment. The Design Engineer will be qualified in a relevant discipline and will be a keen power supply design engineer with experience and knowledge of high voltage requirements.Key responsibilities:Liaise with customers to agree unit specificationsDesign and develop high voltage power conversion products and associated equipment to agreed specificationsInvestigate/research new design techniques (higher stability, lower noise, faster polarity reversing) where requiredAccurately document the design to enable full manufacturing packages to be created or amendedConfirm that developed designs meet their requirements by test and/or simulation and calculationMeet agreed time-scales for a task or projectEnsure that designs are cost effective, designed for manufacture and testEnsure products are compliant to all current legal and regulatory requirements, avoiding the use of components, materials or substances they identify as presenting a threat to the environment. Products will optimise life cycle duration and if practical be repairable, energy efficient and have no undue environmental impactAssume ownership of the assigned projects from conception to completion and give continued support while in serviceResponsibility for adhering to the Company’s ISO 9001 Quality, ISO14001 Environmental and Health and Safety management systems and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.Skills, knowledge and experience:Knowledge of up-to-date components, technology and manufacturing techniquesKnowledge of current regulations and procedures and knowledge of how they affect designExperience of UC design with respect to analogue control/systems would be desirableAbility to keep accurate recordsGood interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with both colleagues and customersUnderstanding of constraints of PCB layout and mechanical packagingAbility to work under pressure to demanding timescalesAbility to follow formal design procedures and methodologies in accordance with ISO 9001:2000Schematic Capture using CADSTAR desirableProficient in the use of Microsoft OfficeSelf- motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision.
