Job Description : Job purpose To drive and direct a team of DNA Analysts to profile DNA samples for loading to the National DNA Database within contractual Turnaround Times (TATs) to the highest quality standards and efficient manner. This includes, predicting profiles of work and effectively managing resource.

Line management and development of DNA analysts is another area of responsibility, to ensure necessary skills available across the DNA Unit to meet service requirements and provide effective succession planning.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Follows all the key responsibilities within a DNA Analyst role, and in addition:

  • Motivate a team of Senior DNA Analysts and DNA Analysts with clear direction and targets to achieve maximum output
  • Efficiently organise and monitor sample throughput, from Pre-PCR to Analysis.
  • Liaises with other teams and ensures any deviations from turnaround times (TATs) and overdue samples are investigated and completed promptly.
  • Able to identify excess time capacity to allow resource to be deployed to other areas and ensure adequate resource
  • Utilise KPI reports to manage workflow, track samples, monitor performance trends, including capturing dips in performance and addressing these before contractual service delivery effected.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, ensuring awareness of progress and issues across process and shifts
  • Works with DNA Team Leads to achieve organisation goals and objectives
  • Line management DNA Analysts, to ensure continued personal and professional development though PDPR process; manage any quality issues or non-conformances and on-going development
  • Work alongside DNA Team Leads to manage absence and service delivery, plan effective training and identify any skill gaps
  • Live work, using this time to assess environment, ensure procedures are completed to highest standards, monitor and promote Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
  • Step up to act as Team Lead if required
  • Manage resource for technical, quality and improvement tasks alongside live work.
  • Embeds a Continuous Improvement (CI) culture and drives implementation of changes
