About the Team and the RoleFollowing the internal promotion of the existing postholder, Warwickshire County Council (WCC) are looking to recruit an ambitious, knowledgeable, and motivated Team Lead, Financial Assessments and Benefits Advice to lead our dynamic team. WCC currently have approximately 6,000 Adult Social Care customers, although this number is expected to increase over the coming years. We currently use Mosaic to capture care information and this information interfaces with our Abacus solution to generate charges. We are currently piloting Better Care Finance as a means of promoting more self-service in completing financial assessments. This is an exciting time as we look to promote and embrace technology to deliver a service that is fit for the future and the anticipated increases in demand. The role will form part of the wider Transformation and Transaction Finance Management Team and will contribute towards decisions and strategies that will help the Council achieve its strategic priorities. Reporting to the Exchequer and BAIC Service Manager, the successful candidate will have the ability to direct and lead the team of 11 FTE’s in delivering the financial assessment service. They would preferably have experience of managing a team of a similar size or can demonstrate how they would manage a team of this size. You will have experience of working in a customer focussed environment, demonstrating patience, and understanding, and be able to deal with customers in a sensitive manner, whilst ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and Information Governance. You will need to have the ability to interpret all types of legislation and financial policies connected to this position with the successful candidate demonstrating experience of undertaking complex financial assessments or having similar benefits assessment and claims experience with a thorough knowledge of relevant statutory requirements, including benefit legislation, regulations and ideally the Care Act 2014. You will be responsible for investigating and responding to disputes, appeals, complaints, improving the service and providing training where required. Candidates need to be able to work on their own initiative, without close supervision to deadlines, with strong organisational skills, able to prioritise work and resources with frequent interruptions. You will be motivated and a critical thinker with the ability to understand customer needs and resolve problems as well as build relationships with other services and organisations. The role will be offered on a flexible working basis, although the successful candidate will be required to work in our Bedworth or Warwick office at times, in line with the demands of the role and team requirements.
