This is a new post, and the successful applicants will join a department of 6 consultants and 1 specialist.The postholder will provide senior support to the front-line work on the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) and the Ambulatory Care Unit(SDEC). This will also occasionally require in-reach to the Emergency Department when required.There is also the opportunity to have DCC activity in other specialties including for example palliative care. We expect the provision of excellent care, comprehensive assessment, and appropriate timely discharges and/or onward referrals.Airedale General Hospital work jointly with other local NHS providers in the region, including Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford District Care Trust, to help ensure we can deliver a patient led collaborative service and thereby promoting a culture of safety and improvement.Main duties of the jobThe principal duties of this post are to deliver a high-quality service to Acute Internal Medicine patients. The appointee would be expected to:o Provide clinical expertise and responsibility to the service in terms of knowledge, clinical activity and guidance as needed. Clinical and administrative responsibility for the proper functioning of the Acute Internal Medicine Department. Develop standards, procedures and robust systems in the department to ensure safe, high quality and efficient patient care from the point of entry into the department to admission or discharge from the department. Supervision of the junior medical staff in the Unit who will haveopportunity to learn on a one-to-one basis on both formal andinformal rounds and also on ad hoc basis throughout the day. Play an active part in educational programmes for junior medical staff, including formal teaching sessions and clinical audits relevant to the needs of the Unit.o To teach and train staff in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate. Maintain an up-to-date job plan and personal development plan Register and participate in the appropriate CPD scheme with the Royal College of Physicians. Work with colleagues to provide a consultant-led service with the highest standard of care.
